Your Design - Your Way, a design master workshop by Ronen Kadushin

Using CNC tools and 3D printing welcomes everyone’s will and way of expression. Free from traditional product design disciplines, a unique design approach is emerging- Yours. If you enjoy being in FabLabs or maker spaces, and you are into digital fabrication or just making stuff, then this 2 day workshop might interest you.

As a group or individual, the 2-day workshop aims to guide authentic expression with a design process. It sets a creative environment for generating ideas and concepts, understanding their potential, and developing them into objects that reflect your character and way of expression. The workshop is not about the technical or production aspects of fabrication, it is a learning experience where you, your qualities, skills, creativity and energy are the focus. Nevertheless, it is a hands on intensive workshop with the goal of producing objects.

In the workshop you will learn:

• Find design ideas and concepts.

• Explore the potential and qualities of a design.

• Make a design meaningful to you.

• Understand the themes of your design.

• Communicate ideas and opinions through objects.

• Integrate elements into an aesthetic design.

• Document your design process.

• Reflect upon and evaluate your work.

The workshop is intended for 12-16 people with some experience in 3D modeling and digital production. You certainly don’t have to be an expert. In case you are, you will also contribute your skills to help other participants.

You are required to bring a laptop computer with a 2D or 3D software you are comfortable with, a computer mouse, and writing and sketching materials.

The cost for the 2-day workshop is 200 € (not including materials and production costs)

About the workshop leader:

Ronen Kadushin (b. 1964) is an Israeli designer and design educator living in Berlin since 2005. He taught furniture design and design creativity courses at leading Israeli and European design academies since 1993. In 2004 Kadushin developed the Open Design concept, where the designs of his products can be downloaded, copied, modified and produced, much as in Open Source software. Based on this concept, he formed Open Design, a design and production company for furniture, lighting and accessories which are produced in Berlin and sold in Europe and the USA. Open Design products are regularly presented in solo and group exhibitions world wide, and published in professional literature. Kadushin is teaching Open design courses in universities and speaks at conferences. Kadushin is the author of the Open Design Manifesto.
